Mindfulness is a form of mediation that focuses on becoming more aware and in tune with your body, and may help you cope with stress. Think of it like you are plugging a computer into your car to check how it’s running. Mindfulness is a way of focusing your attention on how your body is running. Are your shoulders tight and raised up to your ears? Is your breathing shallow and fast? Are you gripping your fingers tight? Is your head on top of your shoulders, or craning forward?
But I’m too busy!
I hear this often but I have two valuable arguments against it.
- Your Health is at stake. Ignoring your body, and holding it in a state of tension and stress can lead to poor long term health outcomes. Stress is one of the leading contributors to chronic health issues, and mindfulness has been shown to help lower your stress
- It can take as little as 10minutes a day. First thing in the morning, or last thing at night are great times, or take 10 minutes out of your lunch break to focus and re boot.
How do I get started?
The easiest way is download an app. There are loads on the market, just type in mindfulness on your app store and pick one that looks good. This site here has a list of some good apps that are free.
Chiropractic and Mindfulness
Chiropractic is a great way of reducing stress and tension in your body. Regular Chiropractic adjustments aim to align your spinal segments, get them moving freely and allow muscles to engage fully and freely from a well positioned joint. Improving your posture will also take some tension out of your body.
