So you may have been told that you have to live with headaches, or that medication is the only answer, or that it’s in your genes. But I’m here to tell you there are some other, natural and powerful tools you can use and implement today. So here are my 3 simple steps to get you on the road to relief today.
Tool number 1:
Did you know your headache could be related to your neck? That’s right, poor posture and neck dysfunction could be aggravating, stimulating or contributing to your headaches! We see this in clinic every day, and often this area is overlooked as a cause of headaches. So we take people through a full postural and functional assessment to see how their neck could be causing their headaches and migraines.
But i’m here to give you a tool you can use today. A simple exercise called a chin tuck, is one great way to start helping with your posture. This involves tucking your chin into your chest, and holding it for 5-7 seconds. Remember, if this exercise is painful than stop. Or you would prefer to have your neck and spine thoroughly assessed first, then send us an email that says “Headache Free” on the Contact Page, and I’ll send you a diary link so that you can book an appointment with us. Tool number 2:
Over stimulation through use of smart phones, tablets and computers can keep our brains switched on and active long into the night. This makes getting to sleep very difficult, and we wake up in the morning tired and without energy. Having a cut off time from electronics in the evening before bed, can help relax and calm the brain, preparing it for sleep. Try avoiding your smartphone after 10pm every night, and turn the TV off as well.
Tool number 3:
Dehydration can also contribute to your headaches. Our simple method to fix this, is to have a bottle or jug of water on your desk. Only drink from this jug throughout the day. This way, you can monitor how much you are drinking, and increase your intake if the bottle remains almost full throughout the day. Our extra tip here, is to also reduce your caffeine intake. Regular tea and coffee are diuretics, meaning you will lose hydration throughout the day. So drink herbal tea’s instead, and balance your coffee with plenty of water.
So there it is, some fresh idea’s on getting some headache relief now.
