Health is not merely the absence of disease (eg. the absence of pains, conditions or symptoms). Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. This means you physical move easily and well, you feel energised and mentally engaged, and you feel loved and connected with friends and family.
At Parade Chiropractic, we often ask the question,
“Do you want to add years to your life, or LIFE to your years?”
You could live until your 100, but what is the quality of life in those years? Are you able to function, and remain engaged and active? Let’s look at the 3 pillars of health, what they are, and how we can add Life to our years!
THINK WELL:
Your brain is like a muscle, which needs exercise. Taking some time to give your brain a healthy workout is key, to improving your health longevity. Fresh challenges, new skills, mindfulness and mediation work to nourish your brain. Don’t get stuck in a negative thought loop, break out of it by exercising your brain in a positive way. Learning a new language, taking up crosswords or sodoku, these are all challenges for the brain, and the brain loves it. It is like feeding it, and this stimulus improves brain function, and leads to better health outcomes. Do not comfortable as well. If you have mastered crosswords over 15 years, change to sodoku, or something else, the brain needs a new challenge.
MOVE WELL:
Your body is designed to move, not stay still. Your spine is made up of 24 moveable segments, make sure they are all moving freely and easily. Movement is controlled by your nervous system, but movement also stimulates your nervous system (including your brain). Lack of movement can lead to a poorly functioning nervous system, and ill-health. Chiropractors are the only profession trained to assess your spine and nervous system for signs of dis-function. In conjunction with exercise, Chiropractic can help keep your body healthy and moving.
EAT WELL:
Food is your bodies fuel. If you feed your body great fuel, chances are it will perform at a greater level. If you feed your body poor quality fuel, it won’t run so well. It’s a bit like a car blowing smoke. Yes it still runs, but it’s performance and longevity are reduced. Our bodies are very resilient, but over time, bad fuel can stress it out, and present in a variety of symptoms. Good fats, plenty of vegetables and lean meats are essential to a good diet and a healthy body. Processed foods should be avoided. Follow this simple rule, if it’s beige, its bad (ie biscuits, crisps, pastry).
